Hamel Family Wines | Bottling Sonoma County’s Finest

October 24, 2025

The Hamel Estate produced its first Cabernet Sauvignon in 2006 and has been certified organic for over ten years. It is also certified Biodynamic, meaning their approach to agricultural practices is holistic and uses dry farming, avoiding synthetic pesticides and GMOs.

Their exquisite vineyards are located in the Moon Mountain District of the Mayacamas Mountains, resting between 1,200 and 1,600 feet in elevation. Their varietals grow in rich, volcanic soil composed of fractured basalt and micro-terroirs, with an abundance of cool mountain winds to keep them cool.

Each bottle is a perfect expression of the best of Sonoma County vineyards and is perfect for enjoying young vintages or leaving them in the cellar to mature and gain complexity over the next few decades. These red wines are rich and luscious, perfect for a cozy fall night in.

Isthmus Cabernet Sauvignon

This classic red blend boasts aromas of dark cherry, sage, plum, and violets, complemented by fruity undertones. The texture expresses finely etched tannins and a fresh vibrance with a stiff minerality. Each sip carries the aromas through to the palate and extends to a long, chalky finish. The Isthmus Cabernet Sauvignon has been aged for 21 months in 60% neutral French oak barrels and 33% new French oak casks with 14.1% alcohol.

Nuns Canyon Cabernet Sauvignon

Made from the Hamel Nuns Canyon vineyards, this Cabernet Sauvignon offers aromas of plum, sandalwood, black cherry, and spice. This luscious red is full-bodied and has an ample dark fruit core with notes of ripe, powdery tannins and a glowing minerality. Enjoy a dramatic, enduring mineral finish. The Nuns Canyon Cabernet Sauvignon is aged in 100% new French oak casks for 12 months and is 13.6% alcohol.

Stratum Red Wine

This dark ruby red has aromas of dark cherry, plum, and cassis, as well as cedar, violets, and iron. On the palate, the dark fruit flavors are complemented by a blooming mineral core and abundant tannins with a bright, unique freshness. The Stratum Red Wine is aged over 12 months in 72% neutral French Oak casks, 9% new French oak barrels, and 19% 1-year-old French oak barrels.

From vine to bottle, Hamel Family Wines captures the spirit of Sonoma County in every pour. Their commitment to organic and biodynamic practices ensures each vintage reflects not only the richness of the land but also the family’s deep respect for it. Whether you’re savoring a glass today or cellaring for tomorrow, Hamel’s wines offer a timeless taste of California craftsmanship at its finest.
